Goodbye, Wolfmother

This was the news in THE AUSTRALIAN.

Rock trio Wolfmother splitsFont

WOLFMOTHER, one of Australia's great international rock success stories of recent years, split up yesterday.

The Sydney band's split, with drummer Myles Heskett and keyboards player/bassist Chris Ross announcing their resignations in a press statement, came just four days after the trio played to thousands of fans at the Splendour in the Grass Festival in Byron Bay last Sunday night.
Citing personal and musical differences, the pair's announcement confirmed rumours at Splendour that relations between Ross and singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale had reached a critical point. Ross told the others of his decision to quit after the Splendour performance. Heskett joined him rather than be part of a new Wolfmother line-up with Stockdale.

The singer plans to find new musicians with whom he will record the follow-up to the band's self-titled ARIA award-winning debut album, which has sold in the millions worldwide since its release in 2005.

Neither the band nor their manager, John Watson, was available for comment yesterday; their statement said they could not find "a harmonious way to work together".

The news brings to an end one of the great Aussie rock success stories.

Four years ago Wolfmother were struggling to fill pub gigs around Sydney. After releasing their first EP, however, the band's brand of 1970s-style heavy rock, a throwback to bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, took off.

The had toured the world extensively, particularly in Europe and the US, to promote the album and won a Grammy last year for one of the songs from it, the stage favourite, Woman.
